Tested by Fire – Daniel 3:19-30

Ice Breaker

  1. Read Daniel 3:19-30 as a group.
  2. Continue to pray for Holy Week at CEFC: pray for all our musicians, set up teams, the proclamation of the gospel, baptisms, and communion. Pray that through all our preparations, God would be glorified and His name made known.
    1. Palm Sunday Service (3/28/26).
    2. Good Friday Service 4/3/26).
    3. Easter Egg Hunt – Outreach for community (4/4/26, 11-2pm).
    4. Easter Sunday Service (4/5/26).

Loving God Unreservedly

  1. In what ways does your worship reflect God’s power, freedom and truth?
  2. Based on this story, which spiritual disciplines help us prepare for times when our faith is tested?

Loving People Sacrificially

  1. What practical steps can we take to ensure we stand firm in our convictions while still showing love and respect to others?
  2. What did the king order his men to do? (3:19–21)
  3. Why do you think God chose to keep these men safe in the furnace? Where in Scripture do we see His servants die, and what purposes did God accomplish in each situation?
  4. The amazing developments in verses 24–25 are narrated from King Nebuchadnezzar’s viewpoint. What are the reasons for his astonishment, and what does this reveal about him?
  5. What else does Nebuchadnezzar do in his response to this amazing incident, according to verses 29–30?

Making Disciples Purposefully

  1. What steps can we take in our communities to foster environments where individuals feel safe to express their beliefs?
  2. Who can you personally invite to Holy Week at CEFC?

Dig Deeper (optional/personal study)

  1. Reflect: Much to his surprise, when Nebuchadnezzar looked in the fiery furnace, he saw not only the three friends alive and well, but a fourth man with them, who looked “like a son of the gods” (v. 25). Who is this person? And what does his presence with the three friends, in the fiery furnace, teach us about God’s relationship to his people? You may find it helpful to read Isaiah 43:2 before answering this question. Reflect on additional passages:
  • We belong to God - Hebrews 8:8-10
  • When we pass through difficult/scary situations – Psalm 91
  • God’s very present help in trouble – Psalm 46
  • We are precious to the Lord – Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 2:9
  • The Holy Spirit’s presence our lives – John 14:15-17; 16:13-14; Rom. 8:1-11
