Dream Interpreted – Daniel 2:24-25
Ice Breaker
- Read Daniel 2:24-45 as a group.
- What are we expressing or asking for when we pray, ‘Your kingdom come’? (cf. Matt. 6:10)
Loving God Unreservedly
- In what ways does Daniel’s experience show us what it looks like to trust God and still take action?
- How do God’s omniscience and omnipotence shape how Christians view the future?
Loving People Sacrificially
- What transpired between Daniel and Arioch? (2:24–25)
- What was the king’s dream and its interpretation? (2:31–45)
- How does this passage show God’s involvement in the political process?
- Why was Christ pictured in the dream as a rock “cut out of the mountain without hands” (Dan. 2:45)? Why did His kingdom smash the statue to dust?
- Why do you think God revealed future events through dreams and visions in the Bible?
- How can the truth that God’s kingdom will ultimately win shape your everyday choices and the way you treat others?
Making Disciples Purposefully
- How can you share the message of God’s sovereignty with someone who is struggling to find hope?
- Why is it important to feel a sense of urgency in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ? Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to someone this week with whom you can share the good news of Jesus, the stone that people reject (2 Pt. 2:1-12).
Dig Deeper (optional/personal study)
- Read about a similar situation in Genesis 41:1–45. What are some similarities between Joseph and Daniel?
God’s Covenants and His Kingdom:
God’s kingdom in Daniel is rooted in His covenants (Dan. 2, 7). The Abrahamic (Gen. 12), Mosaic (Ex. 19), and Davidic (2 Sam. 7:8-16) covenants make up the old covenant, while the new covenant is fulfilled by Jesus (Heb. 8-10). All the covenants show God’s rule and humanity’s responsibility: God gives promises, and people must respond in faith and obedience.
- How do these help us understand the continuity between: Abraham leads to Moses and David, and God’s promises are fulfilled in Christ?
- How about the discontinuity: the new covenant is superior and more inward than the old. The old covenant included a promise of land, fulfilled under David and Solomon, while the new covenant centered on a spiritual kingdom.
Although Christians may differ in how they understand the workings of Jesus’ kingdom, God’s sovereignty and our faithful obedience remain at the heart of it.
