Saving Grace – Titus 2:11-15

Ice Breaker

  1. Read Titus 2:11-15 as a group.
  2. If you could learn a new skill or hobby, what would it be and why? Take time for everyone in the group to answer.

Loving God Unreservedly

  1. New hope … new love … new identity. Which of these is particularly precious to you today?
  2. In what ways does God's grace challenge our understanding of merit and worthiness?

Loving People Sacrificially

  1. Think back to how 2:1–10 challenged you. How will reflecting on the grace and glory of God motivate you to change?
  2. What does the grace of God bring? (2:11)
  3. What are some practical steps you can take this week to live in a way that demonstrates the values found in Titus 2:11–15?
  4. How does verse 14 help us understand that there is more to salvation than the securing of our forgiveness? What is significant about the words and images Paul uses here?
  5. How do verses 11–14 relate to the instructions to various groups in the church in verses 2–10? Note the word “for” in verse 11, which typically indicates a support or explanation for what precedes. How does the gospel of grace empower God’s people for good works?

Making Disciples Purposefully

  1. How does “hope” add meaning to the everyday life of Christians and how can we share that “hope” with non-Christians? (2:13)
  2. Who has God brought into your life at this moment that may need to listen/experience godly hope? Pray for them by name. Take time to share your grace story and invest time to study the Bible with that person. Invite them to church and/or your small group.

Dig Deeper (optional/personal study)

  1. Research the following statement:
  • Titus 2:14 declares that Christ “gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness.” The word “redeem” means to liberate or rescue from oppression. Consider the following Old Testament references to redemption: Exodus 6:6; 15:13; Deuteronomy 9:26; Psalm 130:8; Isaiah 43:1; 44:22; Micah 6:4. What does God redeem his people from? What is the effect or goal of redemption, according to Titus 2:14?
