Sound Doctrine in Family – Titus 2:1,15
Ice Breaker
- Read Titus 2:1-15 as a group.
- What’s the funniest or most unexpected moment you’ve had while discussing your faith with others?
Loving God Unreservedly
- How exactly does the grace of God ‘teach’ us? (2:11)
- Spend time praying for CEFC leaders, for new elders that must be elected this fall 2025, and whose relationship with those they lead may be encouraging in Christ.
Loving People Sacrificially
- What main theme begins in this chapter? (2:1)
- What do you think of when you hear the word doctrine? How would you label or define biblical doctrine in a way that might make it more attractive? Appealing?
- How can you ensure that what you teach other Christians, even by your own life’s example, is in accordance with sound doctrine?
- If you had to describe your role in your community or church, how would you do it? What do you feel are your strongest influences?
- What do you think the phrase 'declare these things' means in the context of Titus 2:15? What examples can you find in the surrounding verses?
Making Disciples Purposefully
- How might the message in Titus 2:15 challenge misconceptions people have about Christianity in today's culture?
- How can you make the gospel of Christ attractive to unbelievers in the way you work/live?
Dig Deeper (optional/personal study)
- Analyze: Use the following outline and study Titus 2, (Bob Utley, Paul’s Fourth Missionary Journey: 1 Timothy, Titus, 2 Timothy, 2000, pp. 105-106):
- Paul’s admonitions to different groups of people
- older men (vv. 1–2)
- older women. v. 3 (cf. 1 Tim. 2:9–15)
- younger women (vv. 4–5)
- younger men (v.6)
- Titus, vv. 7–8, 15 (cf. 1 Tim. 4:12–13)
- slaves (vv. 9–10)
- In Titus 2 the qualifications for church leaders found in Titus 1:5–9 and 1 Tim. 3 are expanded to believers of both sexes and of all ages.
- The purpose for Christians living godly lives is clearly expressed in vv. 11–14, which is one sentence in Greek.
- Titus 2 is a real contrast to the lifestyles of the false teachers found in 1:10–16.
