The Miracle of Proclamation – Acts 2:9-11
Ice Breaker
- Read Acts 2 as a group.
- If you could invite any person from history to a dinner party, who would it be and why? Allow everyone to answer the question.
- How did you become a Christian? Think about elevator conversation (be brief).
Loving God Unreservedly
- Who sent the Holy Spirit? (2:32–33)
- How was God in control of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection? (2:22–24)
Loving People Sacrificially
- How can we embody the sense of belonging and community found in Acts 2 within our own church or small group?
- How did the God-fearing Jews visiting Jerusalem react when they heard Christians speaking their languages? (2:6–11)
- How can you be more open to seeing, hearing, and feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit in your prayer and Bible reading? How could Clovis Evangelical Free Church (CEFC) benefit from greater sensitivity to the Holy Spirit?
Making Disciples Purposefully
- How does God use us to witness to others? In what ways can we actively seek to participate in community service and outreach, reflecting the spirit of unity shown in Acts 2?
- How does the fulfillment of prophecy in Acts 2 enhance our understanding of God's plan for salvation? Who can you share the good news of the gospel with?
Dig Deeper (optional/personal study)
- Research: Read the blog from (Greg Strand, https://blogs.efca.org/strands-of-thought/posts/miraculous-gifts). What do the Scriptures say about living our daily lives in dependence on the Holy Spirit?
- We know that the Christian life, including the beginning, middle and end, is impossible apart from the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9; Galatians 3:2-3). Therefore, we are committed to “live by the Spirit” (Gal. 5:25a), to be “led by the Spirit” (Gal. 5:18), to “walk by the Spirit” (Gal. 5:16), to “keep in step with the Spirit” (Gal. 5:25b), and to “be being filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18 – a present continuous command).
- In what ways does Acts 2 reveal the character of God, particularly His desire to be in community with His people?
