He Is Mine & I Am His – Song of Solomon 2:8-3:7

Ice Breaker

  1. Read Song of Solomon 2:8-3:7 as a group.
  2. Discuss as a group: What is significant about the public nature of a wedding celebration?

Loving God Unreservedly

  1. Discuss the parallels between this text and John 20; Luke 19, and Jeremiah 29:13–14.
  2. In what ways do you see God's love reflected in the romantic love expressed in the Song of Solomon?

Loving People Sacrificially

  1. What is your favorite way to express love and affection to those closest to you, and why does that resonate with you?
  2. How can the principles of yearning and pursuit found in these verses inform our relationships with others in our lives?
  3. What practical steps can you take to obey Paul’s instruction in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to “run from sexual immorality”?
  4. How does Christ’s finished work impact our continued work (sanctification) of ridding our lives/relationships of foxes.

Making Disciples Purposefully

  1. How do the themes of longing and pursuit in Song of Solomon reflect God’s desire for relationship with humanity?
  2. How can you use those to share the gospel and start a relationship of mutual discipleship?

Dig Deeper (optional/personal study)

  1. Research: Use the following questions to help you process potential, “little foxes,” that rob others of developing healthy relationships.

  • What does love mean to you? What does it look like? Does it reflect 1 Corinthians 13?
  • Have you discussed and come to agreement on what the Bible means when it says that the husband is to be a loving leader and the wife is to be gladly submissive (Eph 5:22–33)?
  • Have you agreed always to tell your spouse the truth, to speak the truth in love (Eph 4:15)?
  • Do you both want to be used of God to help others grow in Christlikeness (Rom 8:28–30)?
  • Have you been able to forgive others for an offense, reconcile, and forget the matter (Eph 4:32)?
