Consider From This Day Onward – Haggai 2:10-19

Ice Breaker

  1. Read Haggai 2:10-19 as a group.
  2. What point was God making through these rhetorical questions? (2:12, 13, 15b-16a, 19)

Loving God Unreservedly

  1. How was Haggai’s third message introduced? (2:10)
  2. What did Haggai ask the priests? (vv. 11-13)

Loving People Sacrificially

  1. How was the spiritual condition of the people described? (vs. 14)
  2. How do these passages challenge our lives today in spiritual purity and obedience?
  3. What promise is made about the people’s future? How can we too be encouraged by God’s promise? (vv. 18-19)

Making Disciples Purposefully

  1. How does remaining faithful in obedience to God help us witness to those who do not believe in God?
  2. Pray about how you could help people facing difficult situations by being a tangible witness for Jesus.

Dig Deeper (optional/personal study)

  1. Research: The system of consecration (not exhaustive) is built upon the premise that something holy must not touch something that is unclean. (Lev. 5:2–3; 6; 10; 21; Num. 19)

  • God’s people were to distinguish between the common matters and those that God considers holy. (Lev. 10:10-11; Dt. 17:8-13)
  • To serve in God’s presence, Old Testament priests were made holy by a consecration ritual involving atonement, purification, and eating a special meal.
  • These same elements also underlie the Passover ritual, by which God consecrated Israel as a holy nation.
  • This pattern continues in the New Testament: Jesus brings about a new exodus that consecrates believers as holy.
  • God is uniquely present with the church, composed of both Jewish and Gentile Christians, because it is “a holy temple in the Lord” (Eph. 2:21; cf. 1 Cor. 3:17).
  • God has chosen Christians to be “a holy priesthood”; they are “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession” (1 Pt. 2:5, 9).
