Four Pillars of a Godly Man

What does it mean to be a man? How about a godly man? Many of us have no clue. We can get a clear idea of what Jesus thought by examining his response to an intentionally difficult question directed to him by a teacher of the law: “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” (Mark 12:28). Jesus said simply, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength… Love your neighbor as yourself.” (vv. 30–31).

In two sentences Jesus not only answered a spiritual riddle thrown at him, he revealed how God has designed men and women: with heart (emotions), soul (spirit), mind (intellect), and strength (body). There are corresponding characteristics for each of the four components referred to in Mark 12:30 that defines godly manhood: Compassion, Confidence, Conviction, and Courage.

These are the 4 Pillars of Godly Men.

Five Principles for Godly Men

We live in a season of exceptional political and ethical tension and conflict. For those of us who want to live genuinely as godly men — men who align our lives according to biblical teaching — we may wonder how to live out, let alone share, our faith and convictions without severing our relationships. In 1 Corinthians 9:22, Paul writes, " I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I save some." One version puts it, "that I might win some." Appealing, engaging, captivating.

In that same spirit, we will learn several live principles that we can adopt to be an effective, winsome witness of our faith. These principles are reminders of the internal qualities and attitudes we can nurture on our journey to become effective abassadors for Christ.
