1/28/21-Weekly Letter from Pastor Melvin
Dear Church Family,
Well, today is the final day of our current “Weekly Letter.” Beginning next week, the content of my weekly communication to you will be through the “Pastor’s Corner” tab on our church’s website. Once again, you can find this ministry tool by locating the “Resources” tab at the top of our website and navigating to “Pastor’s Corner.” And remember, those who we know are unable to do this will receive these posts via regular mail.
As already expressed, we will be seeking brief insights from Philippians over the course of several weeks, and the first insights concern a little bit of background information. During his first Roman imprisonment, which was a house arrest that lasted for at least two years, Paul was free to boldly preach and teach about the gospel, send letters, and receive visitors or gifts (Acts 28:17, 30-31 cf. Phil 1:7, 12-14, 16). Philippians was one of four letters Paul wrote during that time, the others being Colossians, Ephesians, and Philemon. Also, the church at Philippi was the first European church founded by Paul (Acts 16:12-40), which he did during his second missionary journey. Moreover, Philippians is a very personal letter from Paul as seen in how he speaks of them, “Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.”
Our roadmap through Philippians will be given in monthly entries, and our time in the letter will continue through mid-June. So, here is February’s map:
February 4, 2021 1:1-2
February 11, 2021 1:3-11
February 18, 2021 1:12-18a
February 25, 2021 1:18b-30
Thank you all for allowing me to serve you in this way.
