OUR NAME

Clovis – Clovis, California is a city of about 100,000 people located just east of Fresno and is situated right at the foot of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Evangelical – The name “Evangelical” is originally an English translation of the Greek term “euangellion” which simply means “good news.” The good news is that God became a human being in the person of Jesus Christ who then died a real death on a Roman cross in order to pay the penalty that was due for our sins and rose again from the dead. Trusting Christ for salvation ensures we also will live forever with Him.

Free – The word “Free” in our name refers to the historical roots of our tradition dating back to the Protestant Reformation. The Free Churches believe that churches should be “Free” to govern their own affairs separate from governmental interference or oversight from state owned churches. Visit the EFCA website.

Church – The New Testament translates the Greek word ekklesia as “church.” This term describes the church as “those who are called out.” The English term “church” comes (via the German word kirche) from the Greek word kurioi which means “the people of the Lord.” The essence of a Church is not a building or an organization. It is the people of the Lord who are called to salvation and service to their Lord.
